Top 5 Sequels We Want

The gaming industry is filled with sequels. Some sequels (rarely) that we want, while others are the yearly sequels that are expected and loathed. Those we wish they would stop for a year or two to better the series. So I have come up with my own list of titles that I would like to see continue at some point – if not now, then in the future. But mostly now.

Scarface: The World Is Yours II

One of my personal all-time favorite open world titles is Scarface: The World Is Yours which managed to capture every little essence that made the movie perfect and create a ‘what if” scenario. What if Tony Montana *Spoiler* survived and was forced to rebuild his empire, one that he worked so hard for, while having to face all the consequences of the choices he made during the movie.  Someone make the sequel that tells what happens when Tony goes beyond Miami and raises the stakes for power.

Star Wars Battlefront III

I’m pretty sure every Star Wars fan wants this one but for the time being they are occupied with Old Republic. Imagine Battlefront III almost like Battlefield 3 except with the option of a third or first person view, first for troopers and third for the lightsaber wielding Jedi. Vehicles, creatures to ride and large lush landscapes that would make our inner nerd/child weep with tears of joy. The often rumored, delayed, cancelled, and rumored again sequel looks to be stuck in development hell. If it ever sees the light of day, one thing will be for sure, the force will be strong with this one.

True Crime 3

Sometimes a game comes along that makes you enjoy it so much you think “Wow, that was off the hook crazy, unexpected, but still an amazing damn experience.” – or something along those lines. That’s how I felt when I played the original True Crime: Streets Of LA. It was essentially Saints Row caliber open world craziness before its time. It took the formula of Grand Theft Auto and turned it on its head, you had a superb fighting/combat, dual-wielding weapons and a bevy of fighting styles to learn and the side missions were galore and awesome. It was sad to see Activision lose faith in this title during development, but it’s great to see the developers realizing their vision with ‘Sleeping Dogs’. Now, let’s prove them wrong! Let’s buy the hell out of Sleeping Dogs and maybe, just maybe, we’ll see the real True Crime 3someday.

This is what we ARE getting

Army Of Two (3)

This one is sort of a no brainer but really one where we would like to see where the story goes. The online was always a toss-up so hopefully the online gets worked on a little and the voice chat gets perfected where it is not a choppy “Can you hear me now?” mess. Recent rumors across the internet point to a possible title called ‘Army Of Four’ which one of the voice actors seems to have let slip. So it just makes me wonder who the ‘Four’ are. Have Salem & Rios brought women aboard maybe? One thing can be heavily hinted at by the title, four-player co-op campaign ? I say Hell to the yeah!

Deadly Premonition 2

The often ridiculed and scoffed at Deadly Premonition struck a chord with many fans and garnered surprisingly mixed praise in 2010. But when it was well spoken of, it was considered as ‘Game Of The Year’. The oddity that was the dialogue, mixed with the open world eeriness of the music and sights, all the while being haunted by visions, coffee and a serial killer. Yeah, I think this game needs a sequel. Talks of a PS3 version finally making it to the states in way of Director’s Cut have been mentioned but with no confirmation as far as a publisher. Maybe if it sells well they’ll grace us with a sequel. Only time will tell for sure.

what about a new free space?
    or a new road rash?
or a new star fox that’s actually a new game with new graphics but one that sticks to the classic flying gameplay?
instead of battefront3, how about a republic commando2?-> 4 player coop storm troopers with a borderlands-style campaign would be awesome-sauce (borderlands-style in terms of looting and coop campaign, not visual style.. i think a more real-world graphics style would suit star wars better)

Maybe it’s cause I’m a Japanese-centric gamer, but a new Zone of the Enders would really hit the spot.
