The sequel to the PS3 PSN launch title Warhawk, Starhawk, has launched today in the US and during its launch announcement on the PS Blog, Dylan Jobe from LightBox Interactive announced that all future DLC for the title will be entirely free!
The decision seems to have come about from the lessons learnt during Warhawk‘s days of DLC, and a desire to keep Starhawk‘s community as one group. “We really didn’t like how in Warhawk when we released a new map pack, it forced these divisions on our players. And after we released three expansions, our player community was pretty fractured,” said Jobe.
Jobe then went on to reassure readers that “all map packs for Starhawk will be free,” and that “whenever we release a map pack you won’t have to pay a friggin’ dime!” Which is always rather nice to know.
It appears that the first in the series of map pack DLC for Starhawk is already in development and will take place on the planet of Cypress – in an old research facility for Rift Energy.
Jobe does also mention that there will be paid DLC for Starhawk in the future, but the DLC map pack will always be free. Currently he has no details to share on the matter, but we’re assuming the paid DLC will probably be for singleplayer content.
