The next release in Firemonkey’s Real Racing series has opted to go free-to-play, no doubt at the behest of parent company EA.
Set to release on February 28th, Real Racing 3 will launch simultaneously on iOS and Android devices and should provide an interesting alternative to previous entries – all while still pushing the visual bar high.
“Today we announced Real Racing 3 will be free,” said a Firemonkey representative on the TouchArcade forums. “And yes, Real Racing 3 was designed from the ground up to be a free to play experience.
“We are so excited about this game and wanted it to be accessible to everyone so we didn’t want there to be any barriers to entry. This accessibility is also what drives the awesome new Time Shifted Multiplayer feature, in that you can play competitive multiplayer with anyone any time, and they don’t need to be online with you at the same time.”
Freemium is also an incredibly divisive method to implement into a game. In Real Racing 3 you’ll have to wait while repairing, upgrading or unlocking cars. The only way around this is through purchasing virtual currency.
Still though, it looks rather beautiful and should be one solid game to play.
