Earlier today, VideoGamer.com released a post announcing that Dead Space 4 had been cancelled due to the poor sales of the recently released Dead Space 3.
However, Dino Ignacio, – UI Lead at Dead Space developer, Visceral Games – has denied the story and the apparent end of the blockbuster action/survival horror series.
“The reports of our death were greatly exaggerated. Please stand by.” he Tweeted.
Ian Milham, creative director at EA and ex-art director on Dead Space also took to Twitter to deny the story.
“Almost nothing in that article is true…” – “I confirm nothing except the hooey in that story.”
EA’s US PR team has reportedly called the VideoGamer.com report “patently false”.
“While we have not announced sales for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA,” an EA spokesperson told Eurogamer.
Is there anything to read into here? The fact that the tweets didn’t say everything in those posts were false seems to leave a few of the rumors wide open. It would be interesting to see if any of the rumors put up by the original report were true and whether the series has, in fact, been affected by the sales of Dead Space 3.
Only time will tell.
